As one whom his mother comforts so shall I (God) comfort you in Jerusalem. Isaiah 66:11

Along the bank of the of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither nor will their fruit fail. They will bear fruit every month, because water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food and their leaves for medicine. Ezekiel 47:12

Realities for New Parents

It is not all "pie in the sky" and there is no such thing as the Perfect Parent- except the Almighty Himself.

  1. Expect to be tired. You have just had a baby.

  2. Do as little as possible the first week, at home. Take time to get to know your baby, they are gone before you know it.

  3. Rest when the baby rests. This gets your energy up and helps with milk supply. If you can't sleep- lie down and read. Or if you have older children, sit and read to them. JUST Rest.

  4. Milk comes in whether or not you are breastfeeding. Pump for comfort, use cabbage, see page on weaning.

  5. DO NOT ENTERTAIN GUESTS OR FEEL YOU HAVE TO. PUT ON YOUR ROBE, LEAVE IT ON WHILE COMPANY IS THERE. THEY SEEM TO LEAVE FASTER.

  6. Take all offers of help, or hire a postpartum doula. If some one asks what can I do- tell them, fix dinner, wash clothes or what ever.

  7. If you have everyone giving advice you do not want, store it for later use, but then say - "my doctor, midwife, baby's Health care provider said"..

  8. Search out good help, books, study groups etc.

  9. Expect to have funny things happen and have a sense of humor.

  10. Cuddle your partner. You may want sex, but just can't or to tired or do not in the mood. Find other ways to please each other. Flowers, soft music and massage work wonders.

  11. Laugh out Loud; it is good medicine.

  12. You were programmed by the creator with motherly instincts listen to them.
